Authentic gumbo, jambalaya, and étouffée — closer than you'd think.
Austin has plenty of restaurants, but very few do Cajun and Creole the way it's actually cooked in Lafayette or New Orleans. Chef Ben Mouton grew up on this food in South Louisiana, trained in New Orleans kitchens, and has been simmering gumbo and rolling boudin in Cedar Park since 2012 — about 20 minutes up 183 from the Domain, or 25 minutes via MoPac from central Austin.
The roux is dark. The boudin is made by hand. The Hurricanes pour the way they're supposed to. If you've been searching for Cajun food in Austin and coming up short, this is the kitchen worth the drive.
From North Austin and the Domain: take 183 north past Anderson Mill and Lakeline Mall — we're at 1821 S Lakeline Blvd, just north of Whitestone.
From Downtown or Central Austin: MoPac (Loop 1) north all the way up to Parmer or 183, about 25–30 minutes off-peak.
From East or South Austin: I-35 north to SH-45, then west — about 30 minutes.
Free parking. Open daily. The bar pours late Wednesday through Saturday — handy for an after-show or after-dinner drink without fighting downtown traffic.
The dishes Austin regulars come back for.
Tomato-based Creole sauce, the trinity, andouille — the plates that put us on the map.
Rolled in-house, fried crisp, served with a Creole mustard. The starter every Louisiana transplant orders.
Eggs Rachel, salmon benedict, mimosa flights, and a live trio. Worth the morning drive from Austin.
